Cedars Hall’s quartet in residence continues its series pairing two great works from the string quartet repertoire. Tonight, Beethoven’s extraordinary F minor quartet op.95 (Serioso) stands sentinel at the gateway into the rarefied world of his late quartets. The String Quartet by Elgar, written exactly a century ago during the tragic final months of the First World War somehow manages, according to Elgar’s wife, to overflow with “captured sunshine”.
