Home to the Bishops of Bath & Wells for over 800 years, The Bishop’s Palace & Gardens is a medieval hidden gem.
The ancient buildings are surrounded by a breathtaking moat and over 14 acres of RHS partner gardens which include formal planting, picturesque and romantic style gardens, a community garden, a contemporary garden of reflection, the well pools that give the city its name and the Arboretum, which is home to the new “Dragon’s Lair” children’s area. Inside the Palace is a stunning medieval vaulted Undercroft, an elegant Long Gallery housing portrait of the Bishops throughout the ages and exhibition and conference spaces
The Palace is also world famous for its resident mute swans who live on the Moat and ring a bell alongside the Gatehouse when they want to be fed.
Throughout the year, the Palace has a range of activities and events including outdoor theatre, festivals, children’s activities, musical performances and medieval-themed entertainment!
The Bishop's Palace has just received a Gold Accolade by VisitEngland, the official tourist board for England.
The Bishop’s Table café offers a full range of drinks, snacks and sweet treats, with the best view in Wells!
